Blahg

I know I've been remiss in posting lately, but I don't give a fuck. I just haven't felt like it. I think perhaps it's because I've been busy actually doing things instead of just getting hammered in front of the computer and winging it.

I'm now involved in THREE Open Mic nights in the area. Every Sunday at The Ringside Pub in Caldwell with Spunk, Chris, Justin, and sometimes James. Every Wednesday at The Side Door in Pompton Lakes with Spunk and James. And every other Thursday at The Lakeside Pub in, umm..."Whateverthefucktown" with Spunk, Chris, and Big Al. The extra money is nice, but more important, it's great practice to have to play random tunes at the drop of a hat. I never play bass when I'm alone at home. I usually end up either playing old Tom Waits songs on guitar, or pounding the shit out of my drums for a bit. So, these gigs are a good way to get a solid bass workout while drinking and hanging out with my pals, and getting paid for it. God bless Rock & Roll!

Quick Kill Formula is busy working on some new stuff. Brutal, heavy stuff. I think the next batch of songs we record are going to kick the shit out of our previous efforts. Also, I'm starting to sneak in a bit more of "the weird stuff" that I enjoy playing. I don't think we'll ever veer off into complete dissonant strangeness, but we're definitely experimenting with new sounds and styles. I'm really digging our whole scene. No egos, no bullshit, no "musical differences." I feel very lucky to have found the right bunch of guys to work with.

On top of all the musical goodness, I met this girl. This kick-ass girl. I shant write much about her, since I value my privacy in such matters. Suffice to say, she rocks. I'm beginning to annoy my friends and co-workers, since I've been in such a good mood these past few weeks. They're all a bit creeped out by "Smiley Shawn." What can I say? I'm playing bass several nights a week, and spending the other nights hanging out with "Totally Mad Cool Opposable Thumb Wonder Woman Panties Girl." (Oh man, she's gonna kill me for mentioning the Wonder Woman panties...Too bad, they're too cool not to mention)

So, there you have it. I'm happy. Life is good. This is probably the least sarcastic (and therefore the least entertaining) thing I've posted on this BLOG so far. Tough shit. I've got a belly full of bourbon, and a head full of "silly pills," and I just can't seem to stop grinning. A big part of that is the fact that I'm blasting the new Tom Waits album as I type this. The man is a genius.
