Spidey-man 2
I just got back from a midnight showing of Spider-Man II. I'm giggling like a schoolgirl! The movie kicked all sorts of ass!
I went to the Clearview 12 in Parsippany. I had a free admission, since yesterday I bought the "deluxe" edition of the Spider-Man DVD, and it came with a free pass to the sequel. The wise-ass ticket-counter guy snickered when I handed him the pass, and said something like: "Oh, you bought the DVD? You basically spent $20 on a movie ticket." I took great pleasure in telling him that not only did I spend a mere $15 for the DVD, I sold my old copy of the movie to a guy at work for $10. That means I spent a whopping $5.00 for a disc of extra Spidey material (the deluxe set is three discs) and a movie ticket. That shut him up pretty quickly. Damn uppity ticket-counter guy.
The theatre was packed, but the crowd was great-no cell phones, crying babies, or chatty fucks to be had. Everyone seemed to love the movie-laughing at the funny moments (there were plenty of 'em), applauding the "big moments," and generally enjoying the whole experience.
In one scene, one of the characters (Harry Osbourne, if you're taking notes) is drinking a bottle of Maker's Mark bourbon. Strangely enough, that was the exact brand of bourbon I had smuggled into the movie!
Everyone knows my bourbon of choice is Wild Turkey, but last week Maker's Mark was on sale, and I decided to give it a shot (pun intended?).
I had brought my trusty, monogrammed flask (thanks again for that, Flan)full of Maker's to the movie. The basic move is to buy a large Pepsi, dump half of it out into the crapper, and refill it with whisky. What drinking problem?
It was a strange moment of synchronicity, indeed, to see Harry drinking the same bourbon onscreen that I was surrepitiously enjoying in the audience. Weird.
In closing (how many of you have used that in an essay or term paper?), Spider-Man II is well worth your time and money. I may possibly see it again before the week is out. It's that good, and I'm that much of a geek.
