Ouch

My brain hurts.

I just spent the last several hours cramming it full of crap. By crap, I mean K-Rock music.

Thursday night is my debut "hired gun" gig with Pushed, and they play a lot of songs I hate. Strangely enough, it's often fun to play shitty songs, if you have the right mindset. By which I mean, you have to be drunk. Very drunk.

The thing is, I can pick up on tunes pretty quickly (reason #144 on the list of Reasons Shawn Rules Your Ass) when I'm familiar with them. I'm not the least bit familiar with most of Pushed's set list, since I immediately change the channel/station whenever I hear Nickelback/Blink 182/Puddle Of Mudd/Good Charlotte/etc.

Don't get me wrong, there are some good songs on their set list. Some. And, as a "hired gun," it's not really my place to criticize. My job is to do the job. I'm cool with that. The guys in the band are laid back, decent fellas who place as much importance on a good buzz as they do on a good performance. My kind of folk. These next couple of gigs are going to be a blast.

It's just that my brain hurts from trying to memorize a bunch of songs that I either; a) hate, or b) have never heard before. The solution? Wild Turkey and Fantomas, of course!

I was a good boy. I did my homework. I played through every song twice, and scribbled down chord charts where necessary. It's in God's hands now. Or something like that. Now, it's time to unwind. How better to counteract an evening of immersing oneself in "popular music" than to get hammered on a bourbon that no one likes and listen to an album that scares the shit out of "normal" people? How better? How? Answer me, you fucks!!!

Anyway, that's it for now. I'd ask you (he said to no one, since no one reads this shit) to wish me luck at the gig, but I don't need no steenkin' luck. I'm Shawn Hendricks, muthafuckas!

I will attempt to post a full Gig Report as soon as possible. Thursday is going to be a late one, Pub 46 is open 'till 3am. I have to work all day Friday, and Friday night I'm...busy. If I can get my head together Saturday, I'll post. Or not.

Saturday night I have another gig with Pushed, at The Junkyard. Maybe I'll just post a combined report on Sunday. Then again, I may not.

I really wonder if anyone reads this shit. I know of one or two people who do (*wink*), but I'm actually curious about my "audience." Post a friggin' comment now and then, and let me know how much I suck at this blog nonsense. You selfish bastards.
